Achebes beliefs are, for the most part, perpetual as they are unearthed throughout his novel, Things Fall Apart. In the sixteenth chapter of the novel, a group of discolour evangelical Christians comes to the Ibo village. Achebe expresses his beliefs about this event through a colloquy between Okonkwo and Obeirika which reveals two important issues. First Achebe recognizes the fact that motley is inevitable when talking about the arrival of the white man. He illustrates this through Okonkwos attitude toward the missionaries, Okonkwo [...] only stayed in the try for that it might come to chasing the men out of the village or whipping them (Achebe 146). This shows how Okonkwo is just battling the transfigures taking place and his attitude eventually drives him to his own death. Through Oknonkwo, Achebe is showing the reader that he believes that change is inevitable and that adapting to it is essential, to the extent of ones own life.
The morsel important issue that is brought up is the conflict between the Christian and Ibo religious practices. Obierika tells Okonkwo about the missionaries religion and how it seems to be just an loathsome joke to almost the whole of the tribe.

The missionaries also seem to insinuate that the Nigerian beliefs and usage are bad, All the gods you have named are not gods at all.
