Panopticons

Panopticism

Michel Foucault is a French philosopher who established the idea of panopticism. A panopticon is a machine that allows you to observe everything from one place. Foucault gave examples of Panopticons and a few of them were prisons, prisons, factories and so on He also comparingd his examples. Schools to factories, barracks to hospitals.
Foucaults idea of panopticism had a lot to do with power and friendship. He said that, Knowledge follows the advances of power, discovering new objects of friendship over all surfaces on which power is exercised and that, Power should be visible and unverifiable. To Foucault knowledge and power went hand in hand. They are complementary to each other because the more knowledge there is the more power and authority there go out be. Power is something you puke feel yet you arent able to set forth wind where exactly its coming from. Power sort of just hovers in secret over its audience. The panopticon is so good at hiding itself that it, ...may tear down provide an apparatus for supervising its own mechanisms... its not sluice safe from supervising itself!
One of Foucaults example of the panopticon was a clink guarding tower.

Schools because the teacher most likely has a amend view of everything the students are doing from the front of the room and a factory because manager offices are typically higher up than the work floor therefore giving him a perfect view of whos doing what theyre meant to do and who isnt.
