Garden Earthly Delights is Boschs most esoteric whole works with a stark combination of inclination and reality. The exterior em empanel of the triptych is painted in grisaille and features a globe of the earth. The left panel depicts the Garden of Eden but this is an unusual representation of the subject: instead of depicting the Temptation and Expulsion of transport and even as Bosch does in Haywain, he chooses to represent the marriage of Adam and Eve4. Bosch creates a fantastical scene comprised of whimsical creatures and landscape forms and combines it with naturalistic overtones. A unicorn drinks water in the midst of a vivid setting. A naturalistic fountain is combined with esoteric imagination due to the fleshy quality of the surface and seemingly alludes to a sexual organ.
